Geoff Ogilvy has carried his red hot Australian form with him overseas and taken out the first tour event of the year, the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii, by six strokes.

Ogilvy who one the Australia Open at Huntingdale in December of last year, has consolidated his position as the highest ranked Australian golfer on the U.S. Pro Tour.

Ogilvy shot a flawless third round of sixty five to set up a six shot lead head into the final round and never looked like stumbling on his way to claiming the 1.4 Million dollar first prize.

The event is only open to players who had won a tour event on the 2008 calender so needless to say it was one of the strongest (albeit smallest) fields of the year.

The only other Australia to play in the tournament was Adam Scott who finished well back in a tie for eighteenth position.
