Coral.co.uk – The Grand National Race is one of the most famous steeplechases in the world and it is a real test of stamina for all the horses that participate in it and also a great test of horsemanship for all the Jockey’s. The Grand National Course is nearly two and a quarter miles long and it also has 16 unique fences for the riders and horses to jump, and these fences can often be the downfall for many Horses and Riders alike. In the race you have also have the famous Bechers Brook fence, Horses and riders have to complete almost two laps during this steeplechase and jump over 30 fences.

The first official Grand National Race, was held way back in 1839, but the race was also run 3 years earlier in 1836. The story of the Grand National race goes back even further to the 1820’s, where entrepreneur William Lynn from Liverpool, sponsored a hare coursing event, which was called the Waterloo Cup, and after the great success of this, it gave him the idea of leasing a bit of land in Aintree and holding race meetings. coral.co.uk
